Freedom of the Human Heart

Yet, imagine a mind whose thoughts about one’s worth and value are concrete and not prone to change. When the Truth of who we are penetrates our mind, our thoughts are not numerous, but significantly less. This is so because regardless of our current circumstances, our mind is resting on a foundation of rock (an unwavering recognition of one’s worth and value), and we are secure in who we are. For this reason, this mind is not reactive unto itself.

Often, we allow society, friends, and family to dictate our worth and value - those in relationship with us. To understand the truth of who we are and our value, we must fulfill the very nature of our design, relationship with the designer. Only the designer can fully reveal the design of the created being.

We find peace when the unchanging truth about our very being is revealed in relationship with the designer, the higher being who created us: God.

In other words, in this truth, our worth is not prone to change regardless of the events each day brings. Therefore, our mind is not reactive. Yet, when our worth is not concretely established, the very events we face can have a say so on our worth causing our mind to be more reactive and therefore, the result is overthinking.

Internal noise exists due to the lack of objective truth or a recognition of the true nature of our existence which breeds external noise and conflict. Yet, a mind resting on the truth of God has internal quiet.

Simply put, our mind is noisy when it attempts to rest in a noisy world. Our mind is quiet when it rests in unchanging truths which are quiet in nature. These unchanging truths are found in relationship with God who is love. This permanent love exists in relationship with God who desires to love on our soul at each moment. However, we must first accept relationship with Love to experience this freedom because it is in relationship that we encounter the truths of our existence, the beauty of our being, and the infallible worth and meaning of our human person. The product of constant love is mental clarity, a silent mind, and therefore, increased stability in our feelings. As a result, there is a fuller expression of the human person that is you. This is interior freedom.

Relationship with Love or God is offered through relationship with his Son who is in relationship with God.

The purpose of the human being is union with Love, union with God. God does not force relationship because He is a gentleman. Yet, in saying Yes to relationship with God, we can truly rest because the truths of who we are actualize in our mind. Who, other than our creator, can create this change in us? We move from defining ourselves in the context of a changing world to defining ourselves in unchanging, objective truths written into our very being by our creator. The gaze of our designer, the creator of the universe becomes the very gaze we use to navigate the world and the circumstances presented. This changes the way we relate to ourselves and others. When the one who made the stars and the sky and the world says you are beautiful, which human being can challenge this truth? When my own mind rises to challenge this, the very thought holds no value in the soul because in relationship with God, His word is Final and true. I am beautiful because He says so. It becomes increasingly difficult to speak to myself internally in such a way that is harmful or damaging, because He shows me who I am.

When a person enters into a relationship with the One that loves on the heart permanently, irrevocably, and unconditionally, then one’s worth is secured by that very being, in relationship. The response of our heart to permanent love is the healing of our wounds and a desire to love others wholly and fully. Since the nature of man and woman is to be a gift, we then react to this permanence of love by loving others in return. Yet, when we are not fed each moment this daily bread, we take more and give less. We are consumed in our anxiety and not present in charity for the other.
In relationship with God, I find true rest, a permanence of peace, a true love for the human person, and a desire to give of myself to serve another. I desire and pray that each person may say Yes to this God who desires a relationship with each individual in a unique and personal way. He desires to set free the human being.
